Resetting Expectations
A new law in Australia will require the disclosure of energy and greenhouse gas efficiency when office buildings of a minimum size are sold or leased. For the past 10 years, the program known as NABERS Energy has aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by rating buildings according to their actual energy consumed during a year. Tenants are increasingly seeking buildings with high NABERS ratings and the federal government is requiring that government agencies aim for 4.5 (out of five) stars.
