Evolving Efficiency
Buildings are ecosystems that are unlikely to be perfect as initially constructed. Great River Energy Coop in Minnesota used the Living Design Process to design, construct and fine-tune its headquarters. By treating the 177, 385 ft2 building as a living body and carefully monitoring its vital signs with ongoing commissioning, the owners expect the building to maintain or improve its energy efficiency throughout its lifetime. Daylight harvesting and a lake geothermal system help the building to achieve an ENERGY STAR Rating of 90.
