The main lesson to be learned from A Grander View, headquarters of Enermodal Engineering, is that mechanical systems don't have to be complicated to work. The building design began with orienting the building east-west to minimize cooling and heating loads and maximize the potential for daylighting. Outdoor air first travels through concrete earth tubes to temper the air using the ambient temperature of the earth. A vortex filter and other elements in the rainwater cistern reduce sediment, eliminating the need for additional energy-consuming filters.
