Visitors come to the Maine Coastal Botanical Gardens' Bosarge Family Education Center to improve their green thumbs, hear a concert or to celebrate a wedding. But, designers hope visitors will walk away realizing that net zero energy buildings are possible today even in cold climates. A super efficient envelope includes 1 ft thick walls and triple-glazed windows, which keep out the cold while providing views of the surrounding gardens. A panelized construction system allowed for off-site fabrication and rapid assembly on site, minimizing site construction during the gardens' busy summer season.
