Burns & McDonnell: Kansas City, MO

Cooperative Solutions
9400 Building 11

Plenty of barriers can derail sustainability efforts that involve a tenant, building manager and owner. But the building team at Burns & McDonnell's World Headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., has cooperated since 2006 to improve the performance of the facility, which was built in 1985. Lighting and plumbing retrofits, boiler replacement and converting to a hot-water/chilled-water variable volume pumping system all contribute to the building's increased energy efficiency. Sustainability improvements include a storm water management system, bifacial photovoltaic modules and a green roof.
