Concord Retrofit House: Concord, MA

A Home for the Next 100 Years
Slide 1 5 Inch Version 1

The American Foursquare, a Sears, Roebuck & Co. kit home, was a staple of small American towns between 1908 and 1940. This article describes a project to renovate and upgrade a Foursquare built in 1915 for another 100 years of occupancy. The project included new windows, mechanical systems and thermal and vapor control. This resulted in energy savings of 54%. Much effort was made to preserve the original details and character of this vintage piece of Americana.
