David Brower Center: Berkeley, CA
Green From the Ground Up

The David Brower Center is home to organizations working for environmental and social justice. Therefore, the building's footprint has been designed to be as light as possible by using energy-saving technologies and recycled materials. The building's narrow floor plate, lightshelves and overhangs provide nearly 100% daylighting. The building itself provides cooling in warm weather using an in-slab radiant system at night to precool the building's mass. In addition, the Center is designed to use 40% less water than a standard system by way of a rainwater catchment system and waterless or low flow fixtures.
