NIST Net-Zero Residential Test Facility Resources

The facility serves both as a project to demonstrate that net zero can be achieved for a newly built home similar to those in the surrounding communities and to serve as a testbed for building energy efficient and renewable technologies. During its first year of operation, the house generated a surplus of electrical energy. As a result of its well-designed building envelope and use of energy-efficient technologies, the househas an annual energy use intensity of 10.7 kBtu/ft2 or approximately 25.1% of the average EUI of single-family detached homes within the climate zone that the house is located.
