McDonald's built an energy-efficient headquarters building in suburban Chicago in 1988. The company has continued improving the performance of the Campus Office Building by lowering cubicle panels to allow more daylight penetration, replacing HVAC equipment, retrofitting lighting and upgrading the building automation system. Campus shuttles are fueled with biodiesel made from recycled fry oil recovered from the on-site restaurant and labs.
