Sandy High School: Sandy, OR

Sustainable Gateway
Sandy P23
Josh Partee

Fresh air and sunlight permeate Sandy High School, while the school's location on a preserved wooded site provides easy access to and expansive views of the natural surroundings. The setting is fitting for this school in Sandy, Ore., known as “the Gateway to Mount Hood.” The open, airy design represents a dramatic change for the approximately 1,400 students, who previously attended classes in a cramped 90-year-old facility that was half the size. A rainwater harvesting system provides water for toilet flushing and irrigation. The school uses half the energy of a school built to code.
